Season 48 Episode 8 Power Rankings

Here’s my power rankings after episode eight! Here are my criteria for making power rankings: it takes into account many factors, including alliances, advantages, idols, strategic resume, position in the game, and future threat to determine a player’s current “win equity.” This doesn’t mean I think the person at the top will win, nor does it mean I believe the person at the bottom will be the next person voted out. What it means is, from now to the end of the game, who is best set up to make it there AND win. Some person may have made a lot of great moves, but in a precarious position that may drop them. Another person may be very safe, but with no real winner possibility, they’re more of a goat and also may find themselves further down the list.

  1. Joe (+3)

  2. Kyle (-1)

  3. Eva (+2)

  4. Shauhin (+2)

  5. Mary (+2)

  6. Kamilla (-4)

  7. David (-4)

  8. Star (-)

  9. Mitch (-)

X – Chrissy (was 10)

On the Top

Joe takes my top spot. It’s partially by default. I think most other players blew up their game or long term future last episode. Kyle overplayed defending Kamilla, revealing his hand a bit (also why he fell). David ostracized his alliance and did awful for the jury. Kamilla has spent way too much time targeting someone who wants to work with her and is letting this strong majority get too far without leveraging Kyle to make a move.

The other episodes I liked were Eva, winning an immunity, reward, and advantage in one full swoop — and keeping the advantage a secret. Shauhin and Mary moved up for me because I think in the main alliance, they got further away from the bottom, but neither are sitting pretty. Kyle only falls to two because I think even though he blew up his spot with Kamilla a bit, he’s really tight with Joe and still has his No. 1 in the game and shares the best move thus far with her.

On the Bottom

Well, this is obvious. Mitch and Star are absolutely on the outside looking in, and they haven’t done one thing about it. They are cooked, for all intents and purposes. I discussed above David torpedoing his winning chances and Kamilla missing her opportunities to make a move and targeting the wrong players. But to dive in more, David is doing exactly what Coach did. He thinks he’s being honorable, truthful, and the right thing, but to everyone else he comes off arrogant. He’s one more bad episode away from his winning chances hitting zero.

I’m willing to give more leeway to Kamilla, but for someone who came into the season saying she wanted to stir up crazy moves and bounce around, she’s failed to take clear opportunities. She’s attacking Shauhin when she could have been leveraging him to flip this game on its head, something he is also itching to do. Frankly, I’m losing faith in a lot of these players, and to me it looks like this might just be a steamroll.
